“What’s your verdict?”

“He’s dying.”

“There’s nothing anyone can do?”

“Well… yes and no. I doubt it, though. The right person might be able to save him, if they were strong enough. It’d be the only way. If he were bonded, it might save him.”

“Bonded? You aren’t suggesting–”

“He needs someone who won’t leave him. He needs someone who can handle his pain as their own. He needs someone that he can hurt and who will stay by his side despite that. Someone who couldn’t leave, even if they wanted to. He needs to be bonded. It’s the only way.”

“That person can’t be you.”

“And why not? I’m better suited to the task than anyone else.”

“He’ll destroy you.”

“I know. I know he will.”

“But?”

“But I love him.”
